Beginner Karting Schools

The Beginner Karting Schools Powered by Franklin Motorsports introduces drivers to karting in a structured, supportive, and low-pressure environment. The emphasis is on fundamentals, confidence, and exercises to shorten the learning curve as you get started in karting

Who is it for?

  • People with an interest or passion in motor sports to give them an opportunity to experience kart racing
  • Beginners looking to cover the basics of karting
  • People that have never been in a competitive kart
  • People who would like to advance from indoor karting or outdoor rental karting
  • Anyone who would like to try kart racing

Requirements

  • Minimum Age: 8 Years and up
  • Minimum Height: 52" (Must have approval to register if height is under 52”)
  • All ages welcome
*Parent/Guardian must be present during school for drivers under 18*

What Driver's Learn

  • Kart Safety
  • Driving Basics (driving lines, braking exercises, apexes, kart control)

Outline of School

  • Upon Arrival - Final fitting in kart
  • Classroom instruction: Start Off with karting basics and safety training
  • Track Walk: Walk the track with a coach
  • Lead/Follow: Follow an experienced kart driver on the track. Following for proper driving line choice
  • Track Time/Coaching: Drivers will be split into groups. Each group will get 4 – 5 track sessions, debrief sessions, coach feedback and analysis. Along with different exercises to become familiar with the equipment

  • Franklin Motorsports Prepped Kart with Briggs LO206 Engine
  • Safety Equipment provided: Helmet, Neck Brace, Jacket, Gloves. You can bring your own approved safety equipment

Driver Development/Lapping Days

The Driver Development Days / Lapping Days are for drivers who have already attended the Road America Karting School and would like more time in a competition kart before entering local level racing.

Who is it for?

  • Drivers who have already participated in the Road America Karting School
  • Continue to cover the basics of karting
  • Drivers who aspire to start racing but would like to have more practice

Requirements

  • Completed Road America Karting School
*Parent/Guardian must be present during school for drivers under 18*

What Driver's Learn

  • Continuation of Driving Basics (driving lines, braking exercises, apexes, kart control)

Outline of Session

  • Upon Arrival - Final fitting in kart
  • Short Classroom sessions focused on continued development of driving basics
  • Track Time: This will be most of the session.
  • Coaching: Receive some coaching in between sessions

What's Included

  • Franklin Motorsports Prepped Kart with Briggs LO206 Engine
  • Safety Equipment provided by Road America: Helmet, Jacket. You can bring your own safety equipment
